Ira Woodrow Holcombe

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Hiram Wesley and Alice Horton Holcombe and was the brother of the late Bea Waldrop, Arnold Holcombe and Thomas Holcombe.

He was the beloved husband, for 59 1/2 years, of the late Donnie Maynor Holcombe, who died in August, 1999.

Mr. Holcombe retired from Three Mountaineers in 1990 with 55 years service and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

He is survived by his three children, Ronald Holcombe, Gary Holcombe and his wife, Karen, and Marilyn Holcombe Knupp and her husband Rodger, all of Asheville and two beloved grandchildren, Mathew and Daniel Knupp.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Donald Welborn. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 pm Wednesday, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
