Elizabeth Jane Redecker, 91, of the Givens Estates, died Sunday, July 4, 2010 in the Givens Health Center. She was born in Wellsville, New York on July 29, 1918 and lived in Michigan and then in Hendersonville for 24 years before moving to Asheville in 2000. Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Harry E. and Irene Laberteaux Brelsford. She graduated from Ohio University in 1941 and was an Elementary School Teacher in Ohio and Michigan for many years. She married her husband Robert Redecker on November 16, 1945 and was married for 56 years before he passed away in 2001. Mrs. Redecker was very active in church. In the 1960's, while living in Michigan, she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Royal Oak and was a member of the Executive Board of the United Church Women of Michigan. In the late 70's, she joined Hendersonville United Methodist Church and in 1980 she became the President of Henderson County United Church Women. She was also a member of the Hendersonville Black Historical Society. In 2000, she joined Skyland Methodist Church where she became a circle leader. She is survived by her son, Thomas M. Redecker, his wife Andrea and granddaughter, Emily Robyn of La Crescenta, California and by four brothers and one sister. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm in the Pulliam Chapel of Givens Estates conducted by the Reverend Keith Turman. Burial will follow the next day in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville.
