Gladys Tippette Hyer died June 12, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. She was 92 years old.
She was born June 7, 1918, in Franklin, NC, to the late Laura Belle Holland and Sam Tippette. Her father died when she was 7 years old and her step-father, Herman Kuykendall, raised her. She lived most of her life in Asheville and moved to Altamonte Springs, FL, 16 years ago after her husband of 54 years, William H. Hyer, Jr., died.
She worked in sales, interior decorating and was the activities coordinator for many nursing homes in Asheville for the mentally impaired. She was involved in many organizations, including serving as President of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also an officer in Eastern Star in the Candler chapter. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church of Altamonte Springs.
She is survived by her son, Bill Hyer and daughter, Linda Bender (Morton), both of Altamonte Springs; grandsons, Seth Cameron Bender and Sean J. Bender (Maria) of Denver, Co.; and great-granddaughter, Francesca Bender. She is also survived by her sister, Kim Kaschub, of Orlando and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive friends on Friday evening at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside rites will be performed at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at Green Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. John Pagel officiating.
