MAE CATHEY PARHAM WELLS
CANDLER – On Wednesday, June 9, 2010, 39 days after her 95th birthday, our beloved “Aunt Mae” passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior. A heart strong enough to encompass so much joy, love, trials and tribulations finally said, “I can’t go on any more.”
Mrs. Wells was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Addie Cole Cathey. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Jake B. Parham and Reeves Wells, and by her siblings, Edna Roberson, Jennie Robinson, Dow, Fred, Tom, Frank and Mack Cathey.
She served on the Board of Directors of the Brooks-Howell Home and was member and past-president of the Toast Mistress Club.
She was a lifelong member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church, a lay speaker, and a member of the Annual Conference. Among many positions she held at the church was president of the Methodist Women.
Her greatest joy was cooking for friends and family. Before her husband, Jake’s, illness, she stayed active, taking piano lessons, ceramics classes, and went to work at Enka, taking night classes to prepare for better jobs.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. David E. Peeler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

I am so sorry to hear about Mae. She was a dear friend of mine for many years at American Enka and the Toastmistress Club. She was a fine lady.
I was not aware until today that she had passed away. She will be missed.
