Helen Elizabeth Rogers Smathers, 82, formerly of Old Highway 20, Alexander, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, at the Rickman Nursing Center.
Mrs. Smathers was born in Buncombe County, was a daughter of the late O.M. and Fannie Osborne Rogers, and was married to Henry C. Smathers, who died in 1991. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Gerbers and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
She is survived by a nephew and his wife, Rex and Irene Ballard of Asheville and a grandniece, Rexanne Ballard of Durham.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Ashelawn Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating.
