Maethorn Brown "Babe" Tucker, 87, of 90 Alpine Way, died on Sunday, May 16, 2010. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Tucker was a daughter of the late Wilbur L. and Bertie Duckett Brown. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Wilburn Terrell Brown, Riley Marshall Brown, Orville Dennis "O.D." Brown, James Larry "Joe" Brown, and Jennings Duckett Brown. Mrs. Tucker was a graduate of Leicester High School. She was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she served as a Session Elder, a moderator and co-moderator for the Westminster Presbyterian Women. She was also moderator for her circle, Circle #2. She was facilitator of the Creative Ministries for Women and supported the Westminster Presbyterian Church pre-school program. She also took interest the Audubon Society and the Wildlife Society. She is Survived by her husband of 55 years, Embra A. "Tuck" Tucker, Jr.; three daughters, Sharon Woody Munn and husband Charles, Sr., of Rockingham, Jerri Ann Tucker Mitchell of Mauldin, SC, and Joyce Tucker Neal and husband Frederick "Rick" Neal, Jr., of Asheville; son, Embra A. Tucker, III, of Woodfin; seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mrs. Tucker will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Black Mountain, with Pastor Lynn Webber officiating. Interment will follow in the Veterans Cemetery, Friends may gather at Groce Funeral Home at 856 Tunnel Road in East Asheville from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 15 Overbrook Place, Asheville, NC 28805.

  11. Sharon, Please know I share your loss and hurts that go with it. I lost my 94 year old mother, who had was also named Mae last November. A mother’s loss leaves a real void. We are blessed to have had moms that were so active. That is a real gift. God bless you in the coming days.
