Charles E. Guthrie
January 20, 1938 ~ March 25, 1999
Mr. Guthrie was born in jasper, AL, and was a son of the late Bernard Elliott Guthrie. He was a graduate of Florida State University and served in the National Guard. Mr. Guthrie was a devoted journalist and was formerly associated with the Orlando Sentinel Star and was the former editor of the Cherokee Scout in Murphy, NC. He retired as business editor of the Asheville Citizen-Times.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Guthrie; a daughter, Stephanie Ann Guthrie; a son, Chris Guthrie, and his wife Robin, of Dahlonega, GA; seven grandchildren (who referred to Mr. Guthrie as 'Boss'), Justin, Christina, Kathleen, Allysa, Christopher, Taylor, and Abbie; his mother, Esther Lee Blevins Guthrie of Jasper, AL; his step-mother, Willadean Guthrie of Kissimmee, FL; a sister, Barbara Freeland of Jacksonville, FL; and a brother, Kenneth Bernard Guthrie of Mayo, FL.
Funeral services will be at 5:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Fueral Home with Chaplain Ron Brown officiating. Private burial will be in Dahlonega.
Memorials may be made to the Leicester Volunteer Fire Department or to the Buncombe County Sheriff's Department Chaplain Program.
