Kevin Neil Penland, 38, of 37 Majestic Ave., Asheville, died
Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was the son of
Blake and Shirley Nash Penland of Candler.  He was a graduate
of A-B Tech and of several training school in the southeast.
Kevin was a service technician with Bobcat of Asheville and a
former truck driver with Youngblood and Kellwood.  He was a
Marine veteran and was a former member of the Southern
Appalachian Clogging Team.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Donna
Thomas Penland; daughters, Tashina Ann Penland and Kerrie
Thomas of the home, Misty Surrett of Candler; sons, Johnathan
Thomas of the home, Toby Hensley of Weaverville; sisters and
brothers-in-law, Rena and Mike Merrill, Darlene and Dale
Henson, Lia and Fred Banks, all of Candler; his brother and
sister-in-law, Tracy and Sheila Penland of Candler and his
paternal grandmother, Lois J. Penland of Candler.

Services will be 11 am Tuesday in the chapel of Groce
Funeral Home on Patton Avenue conducted by the Revs. Jack
Collins and Paul Mullinax.  Interment will follow in Pisgah View
Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Monday at
the funeral home and at other times will be at the home of his
parents, 78 Morgan Street in Candler.
