Graveside services for Mr. Whittemore will be at 12:00 pm Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at Pisgah View Memorial Park. The Revs. Carson Moseley and David Hanson will officiate.
He was the owner of United Chemical Co., and was a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughters, Betty Ellington, Nancy Auerbach, and Kay Gaddy Bryant; a son, John Thomas Whittemore; step-daughters, Gail Whiteside, Bonnie Robinson, and Beckie Harper; sisters, Lola Proffitt and Dare Smith; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. His son, J. Gudger Whittemore, Jr., died in 1989.
