William Alec Ballard, of the Woodlands, TX, formerly of Asheville, died on Tuesday February 10, 2009, at Regent Care Center of the Woodlands. A native of Buncombe Co., Mr. Ballard was a son of the late Joe and Charlotte Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a long-time member of Sunrise Baptist Church, Asheville, NC, where he volunteered as an usher, choir member and in the Children's Sunday school ministry. Mr. Ballard moved to Texas 13 years ago, where he lived in The Woodlands, TX, with his sister, Betty Chapman. He became an active member of Gateway Baptist Church in Spring, TX, where he was a member of adult Sunday school class. He was also a member of The Harmonizers senior singing group in the Woodlands. His favorite hobby was repairing old radios. William was a committed Christian, and loved spending time with his great-nieces and nephew. Mr. Ballard is survived by his sisters, Betty Chapman, of Texas, Pat Ballard, and Judy Parker, both of North Carolina; and brothers, Gene and Jerry Ballard, both of North Carolina. A graveside service for Mr. Ballard will be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Reeves Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Moretz officiating. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Gateway Baptist Church, Spring, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gateway Baptist Church, 2930 Rayford Rd. Spring, TX 77386.
