Lewis Sidney Case, 71, of Monroe, NC, formerly of Asheville, passed away at his home early Friday morning, November 21, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 11, 1937, in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Charles Sidney and Effie Brank Case. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, George Harley Case and Ronald Thomas Case. A graduate of Sand Hill High School, Mr. Case attended Western Carolina University. He was employed by Biltmore Dairy for 33 years. After moving to Monroe, he worked in the family business, Carolina Cylinder Head Service, for 12 years and then at Canteen Vending Service for 5 years. He was a member of Bent Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Payne Case, of the home; one son, Dennis Case of Monroe; three daughters, Susan Case Cox Slate of Stuart, VA, Karen Case Womble of Arden, Pamela Case Lowe of Monroe; nine grandchildren, Sgt. Ryan Cox, Lori Cox Edwards, Sgt. Kevin L. Cox, Jesse M. Slate, Petty Officer Third Class Ronnie Womble, Nathan A. Case, Derek S. Case, Nicholas A. Case, and Barrett B. Lowe; three great-grandchildren, Emily E. Edwards, Matthew N. Edwards and Rayleigh H. Case; one brother, Charles Case of Candler; four sisters, Pauline Case Lawing, Frances Case Ballard, both of Asheville, Lorene Case Bridges of Leicester, Judy Case McCurry of Candler and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at Pisgah View Memorial Park with the Reverend Carl Bishop officiating. His family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

Uncle Lewis was always a bright and loving part of my childhood and also in my later years, with many fond memories of Sunday dinners at Mamaw’s and Papaw’s and many nights spent at your home in West Asheville and then Bent Creek.
