Dorothy Ann Spaulding Rice, 81, of the Oaks at Sweeten Creek died on Wednesday, November 5, 2008. She was born in New York, New York and was the daughter of the late Bertrum L. Spaulding and Oda Petersen Spaulding. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Chene Gribben. She retired from WalMart on Hendersonville Road, where she worked as a greeter and a cashier and was a member of Skyland Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Cathy Odom and husband Richard of Arden and Carolyn Gribben of Hendersonville; a son, Richard Edward Gribben of Asheville; sister, Audrey Gatlin of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren, James "Bear" Roberts of Atlanta and Jason Shawn Gribben of Hendersonville; a great-granddaughter, Brittanny Annette Gribben of Hendersonville A funeral service will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with the Pastor David Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813.
