Helen Francis Korlatowitz, , born March 15, 1922, in New York City, died Friday, February 22, 2008, at Asheville Specialty Hospital.
Mrs. Korlatowitz was a medical records supervisor at Central General Hospital in Syosset, NY, for 18 years and retired to Asheville in 1989.
She was an avid reader, cook and needlepointer. In addition, she created Braille books for the blind. Helen was a longtime member of Crossroads Assembly. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bron Charles Francis.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, John Korlatowitz; daughter, Bonnie Francis Cerwin and her husband, Dr. Robert A. Cerwin, a granddaughter, Christina Cerwin Allen and her husband, William Alexander Allen IV, and a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Bronwyn Allen, all of Raleigh; a grandson, R. Alexander Cerwin of Houston, TX; a son, Bradley David Francis of Manteca, CA; and one sister, Marie Lewis of Ione, CA.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday at the Crossroads Assembly conducted by the Rev. Dr. Robert J. Chuprevich. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday in the Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh under the direction of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Assembly, 20 S. Bear Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28806.
Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with local arrangements.
