Joleen Conner Miller

joleen miller
Resolute in her faith until the end, Joleen Conner Miller, 52, left this earth to bow at the knee of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, January 14, 2008, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Always full of life and exuberance, Joleen was a passionate worshiper of Christ, a dedicated mother, a loving wife, a wonderful daughter, a compassionate sister, a devoted aunt and niece, a cherished cousin, and a faithful friend. Joleen was born on April 19, 1955, grew up in Enka-Candler, and graduated from Enka High School in 1973. She remained a faithful member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church all of her life. With her vivacious personality and her competitive spirit, she was gifted at direct sales, and became a Regional Vice President in Partylite, Swiss Colony Occasions, and Parklane Jewelry. During her last 15 years in direct sales, she achieved many significant accomplishments and was able to travel the world because of her exciting careers. Joleen treasured spending time with her family to whom she dedicated her life. She will be lovingly missed by her husband of 35 years, Ben Miller, who cared for her until her last breath; her daughter and son-in-law, Misty and David Hunter; her son and daughter-in-law Mitch and Marie Miller; and her grandson, Caleb. God blessed her with a big, loving, and compassionate family. Her family was most important to her. They were the loves of her life. In addition to her husband and children, Joleen is survived by her mother and father, Joe Conner and Marianna Young Conner; her brother, Jeff Conner; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. It is impossible to list the many devoted friends who provided comfort and love to Joleen during her cancer battle. So many loving friends and family continued to be a wonderful example of friendship, while hundreds of other loved ones encouraged Joleen with cards, calls, visits, home-cooked meals, prayers, gifts, errands, and flowers on a regular basis. The support from the community was overwhelming throughout the cancer battle and helped Joleen remain positive until the very end of her life. We will all cherish her zest for life, energy, compassion, and example of courage for the rest of our lives. She will live in our hearts forever. The family will receive friends at Oak Hill United Methodist Church on Wednesday, January 16 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the funeral service will immediately follow with the Rev. Wes Austin and Scot Garland officiating. The burial will be held at 12:00 noon on Thursday, January 17 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church in Candler, NC. At all other times the family will be at the home of Marianna and Joe Conner, 3 Barclay Road, Candler, NC 28715. Joleen’s request was that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 227 Oak Hill Rd., Candler, NC 28715.

Guestbook

  1. To the Miller Family

Just wanted to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Your Mother was a beautiful woman and always had a smile on her face.

    God’s Flower Garden

It’s hard to lose the one’s we love, To see them pass away, The sweetest and the kindest gone. While othes are left to stray!

But if we had a garden With roses fair and bright, We’d often pick the loveliest And think it to be right.

And so it is with Jesus In His earthly garden here; He often picks the fairest flowers, The one’s we love so dear.

The flowers that are picked by Him will never fade away. We know they’ll live forever, and We’ll see them some sweet day.

  2. Dear Miller Family

  5. To Biggie, Misty, Mitch, Nanny & Joe~

I was just informed of this guestbook today as I discussed Joleen with a client & friend of mine. Needless to say, months later, her name continues to roll off our tongues and bring a smile to our faces. As someone who, for years, was as near and dear to me as a Mother, Joleen’s passing was quiet unbearable. My prayers continue for your family, as there is truly not a day that goes by that I do not think of her. Her photo is in my kitchen and I can’t help but to think of the vivacious, spirited, loving, outgoing and amazing woman she was. I will miss my friend, Joleen, and I know she is watching us all from heaven.

    With deepest love,
    ‘B’

  6. My deepest sympathy to the Miller and Connor families….I was shocked to hear about your loss…Joleen was a wonderful and beautiful person and yes, so full of life. I just deeply regret that it was taken from her so soon. I played softball with Joleen, my husband then, Hugh Moore, was our coach and we had many good times
together. I cannot describe how I feel right now. I am just broken hearted. I really loved this girl. She will be missed by all that loved and knew her, May God be with each and everyone of you during this hardship.

With Deepest regrets, Jewel (Deane Moore) Atwood

  7. Joe, Marianna, Benny, Misty & Mitch

I’m so sorry for your loss. I have been so out of touch that I didn’t even know she was sick. I pray you find comfort knowing she is now in God’s loving arms!!

  8. Mitch and Misty.
You both are in my thoughts and prayers as you have been for the last few days. You know how special you both are to me. You two are those students who will always bring back memories of wonderful times teaching school. You have made such wonderful adults to which your mom was so proud. She supported you in all you did. She lives in you and always know you two were her greatest accomplishment in this life here on earth. I love you both so much and will pray that God will get you both through the times to come.
    You two are special,
    Cherie McCurry

  9. I was so sorry to hear of Joleen’s passing. I know your family has many wonderful memories to rely on until you are united again. Through the years whenever I would run into her, she would always take the time to ask about my children and then update me on hers. It was so evident of her love for family. She is now in a place without pain and suffering, so in that I hope you find some peace in dealing with your loss.

  10. Dear Family Members,
Joleen was a great friend during our grade school and high school years. She was always fun and had a good attitude. An interesting fact that we always recalled to each other was that our mothers were in the hospital together when we were born on the same day! I am sad to learn of her illness and passing. I am so sorry that I could not attend the services. My prayers are with you.
    Becky Robinson Bumgardner

  11. Dear Families, I am so sorry to hear of Joleens passing. She was a great friend in school but lost touch as we often do as we get older and go in different directions. 12. So many beautiful memories, not enough words to express how we all feel about our precious Joleen. She will forever be in our hearts always. Her energy and passion for life is the two most positive things we will always remember her by. Once again, stay strong, follow in her footsteps and we all will once again be together for that one big party she is already planning. We love you all and if you need anything, we are a call away. Love the Mikuliks.

  39. Dear Benny, Misty, Mitch, Joe, Marianna and Beloved Family,

Times like this, it’s so hard to find the words to say. I really don’t know where to begin. I am so sorry for your loss, I know your hearts are broken. Joleen was so many things to so many people. She certainly was a rare gift, and one of a kind. Joleen touched so many lives and hearts. I’m so thankful for the great memories that I have of all the wonderful times we shared. Joleen’s love of life, people and most of all each one of you, her family, always shined through her beautiful eyes. Joleen had a way of picking you up when you were down, crying with you, or absolutely laughing till your sides hurt. She was there for me during a horrible time, reminding me that things would only get better. I appreciate her love and friendship. I pray that you each find peace in God’s love and grace. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all… May our Lord bless and keep you all…

    “In time,
    the heart heals,
    leaving us
    with memories ‒?
    not of our sorrow,
    but of
    the love
    we have known.”

    Much Love, Thought, and Prayers,
    Vonda

  40. Benny,Mitch,Misty,Marianna,Joe and Jeff,
With sad and heavy hearts, our family sends our regrets knowing that the days ahead will be hard and sometimes long. Knowing Joleen, her first glimpse of Heaven and Jesus, she was right at His feet saying, ‘Lord, this place is awesome!!!! I am here to worship and sing praises to you. My time on earth was full. You gave me a wonderful husband, children, mother, father, brother and family. Now, they will be here later, and I need to help make things ready for them and others. Lord, you know I work hard.
What’s the plan. I am ready to dive in.’ Yes, she will be missed
but you know that she is already waiting for those who believe as she did–HE HAS PREPARED US ALL A PLACE AND WORDS CAN’T DESCRIBE IT!!

  45. Joleen and I worked together, through 2 different direct sales businesses.
Many a time we were called Mutt and Jeff because she was tall, elegant and all about BLING! I am the short, square, sweat-shirt, try-to-match a pr. of socks, NOT BLING!!!
But the differences and fun we shared, made for a dynamic relationship.
    I loved Joleen.

My condolences to your entire family.

  56. Benny, Mitch, Misty and family: Please know you all are continuing to be lifted up to our Lord in prayer. Joleen was such a spirited and vivacious person whom we grew to love over the years. 66. Ben, Misty, Mitch & Entire Family:

My heart was broken this morning when my sister, Amy, called me at work to tell me of Joleen’s passing. I feel so terrible because Joleen & I had lost touch & I was unaware of her health. The last time she & I spoke on the telephone, she was telling me how great she was doing so much better & I was under the impression that all would be fine! I was so shocked this morning! I am so sorry for your loss.

Joleen & I had the best times while I was given the opportunity to not only share her friendship, but to also share the Partylite experience with her. I met Joleen at a candle show at Amy McKinneys house. From the time that Joleen began talking about her career, I KNEW that I wanted to do the same. It could not have been more perfect. I was living in Asheville with my sister because she had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer at 34 years old & was pregnant with her first child. I was looking for a job that would be flexible so that I could have income, but also be there to care for my sister. After a long battle, my sister passed away after her son was born. She lived until he was 5 months old. The reason I tell you this story is becasue Joleen told everyone this story & was always so convinced that she & Partylite made that flexibility possible. Everytime she would share the story she would say that it was why she loved sharing her career opportunity!

I thought this morning about the time all you guys came out to Murphy and we had the fish fry! That was a lot of fun!

Due to the timing & weather tonight I don’t think that I will be able to attend the services, but I am going to try. Please know that I sincerely will be praying that you all will be fine. She will be greatly missed, but think of all the wonderful times she gave us!!!

I laugh everytime I think of her & her sense of humor & her glamorous idea of life. I went to watch her do a show one night in about 3 inches of snow & she was in heels (IMAGINE THAT!!!!!!!)carrying Partylite stuff into a house. I was laughing so hard at her that we both got tickled & started falling on a sidewalk that was solid ice!! Everytime we would get back up, we would start laughing & would fall again. I do not know how we made it through that night, it was a miracle!!

That is only one of the funny stories of the times we shared. She always made me laugh!

These memories will last forever! She was such a special part of my life and a very sweet & caring woman.

    With much love!

  67. David and Misty, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  68. Misty, Mitch and all the family, i am very sorry about your Mom’S passing. I am sure that she is doing great where she is right now. She was always in my prayers everyday since the day i found out about her illness. If i can do anything to help you guys, please let me know.
You all take care of yourselves and i’ll see you around. Marshall

  69. I am so sorry for your loss. I lost an Aunt the same way after a 13 year battle. I know what Joleen and her family had to endure. I didn’t know she was losing the battle. It saddens me to lose an old friend and classmate.

  70. Ben and Family,
Ben, I am out of town and my wife informed me that Your beloved wife, Joleen, had passed away. My thoughts are with you and I am truly sorry as I know she will be missed by the family and friends.

  71. My heart is saddened to hear of our community’s loss. Joleen meant so much to so many people. I fondly remember her support of both her family (Misty, Mitch and Jeff) and Enka High School as she attended so many of the football games. Her family and friends were so wonderful to her that I know it was just as hard for her to leave all of you, as it was for you to let her go. Loving memories will be painful for now, but I pray that in time your memories will be comforting. Joleen was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed.

    God Bless you all!

  74. To Joleen’s Husband, Children, & Parents
Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.
I knew Joleen around 1998 when I sold PartLite candles with her
She was so dear to me & my family during that time
She was adored by so many people in this area
I know I lost contact with her after I was no longer a consultant
But this is such small world that I had heard abt the battle with cancer & I knew that she was a very strong woman & it was a honor to have that special memory of fun times we shared – unit meetings, events, parties, etc.
My oldest son, Austin, & I would come & spend time w/her @ her parent’s pool
She will have special place in my heart for the compassionate attitude she portrayed daily
    May God’s Grace strengthen you

  75. Ben, Misty, Mitch, Jeff, Joe, Marianna and family,
We want to share in the sorrow of your separation from Joleen. Giving up one you love on this earth is So difficult – but what Joy we have in knowing that our Great Reunion Day is coming!! When we finish the job the Lord has assigned for us down here, then we will be able to join them for an eternity of happiness never to be separated again. As she met the Lord on Monday – Rory was there to cheer her on and take her on a heavenly tour and tell her all about the best places to see first. Only God’s sweet peace and abounding grace can and WILL sustain you. Our prayers for each of you will continue during the difficult days ahead.
    Our Love in Jesus,

  76. Please accept my sincere condolences and sympathy. Joleen was a dear childhood friend and I will always remember her that way. Sincerely, Cindy Yarborough Fuller

  77. Mitch and Marie,
I remember meeting your Mom at the airport in Asheville as we all returned from a trade show. I recall the look of love on her face when she saw you, Mitch. You are truly blessed to have had that love. I am saddened for your loss. You have been a loving friend to me and one that I will always remember. Knowing you and the wonderful character that you possess, tells me that your mother had to have been a very special person. Know that you are on my heart and in my prayers.

  78. To the Family of ‘Mrs. Joleen’
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you!
I painted for ‘Mrs. Joleen’ in the mid 90’s, referred by Anita, when I resided in NC.
‘Mrs. Joleen’ touched so many people with her kindness, loving spirit, caring heart and humor that kept you smiling the whole time around her.
At that time she was so excited about Partylite candles-she showed them, gave samples and loved her work and her family.
‘Mrs. Joleen’ will be missed by many. Her light will Always shine…
    God Bless you all:):)

  79. To the Miller family,
My Thoughts & Prayers go out to the entire family at this sad time.I as many other people met Joleen thru one of her energetic Party Lite partys. She was a woman that no one could forget ,once she met you she knew you for life, thru that meeting i knew i had made a friend. This world has lost a very special person and we have to know it was her faith that got her thru the days of pain, and prepared her for walking thru Heavens gates.Joleen will be missed by all.

  80. Benny and family, Please know that our prayers are with your family right now. Joleen was an inspiration to me as a consultant in PartyLite. She was such a motivator and encourager. She helped me to see good things in me that I did not see in myself. I will always be grateful that she came across my path and I will never forget the wonderful times we had when we went to conference. May God wrap His loving arms around you and your family right now. I know He is.

  81. To all of the Miller Family: I was so saddened to hear of Joleen’s death. I have known her for many years and she was always so full of spirit and a great leader in the schools and community. She will be greatly missed, but as children of our great God and Saviour we will be reunited some day. I am so sorry for your great loss.

  82. Misty and Mitch, Allison Laney passed the news along to me. I went to WCU with you guys. So sorry to hear about your beautiful Mother. God’s Peace be with you during this time.

  83. To the precious family of Joleen:
My heart is very heavy as I have just learned of the homegoing of this precious and beautiful saint of God.She touched so many lives in her short time on earth. But I believe that God looked over to Jesus on Monday and said it’s time to go get my child Joleen, she has suffered long enough it’s time for her to come home. She took her last breath here and her next one in Heaven. No more pain and a brand new body. And I know that she is up there meeting with all the saints that have waited for her arrival. But I believe that as soon as she arrived she by-passed all the ones waiting for her and said I will be back in a while and went straight to the throne of God to kneel at his feet and thank him and praise him. Oh what a glorious sight that would hav been to behold with all of her energy…. And I believe if she could send a telegram back here to us today it would read something like this, Precious family an friends, I have arrived safely, I’m having a great time and I sure WISH YOU WERE HERE. God bless each of you in your time of sorrow and our prayers will go up for you.Remember you will be with her longer that you will be without her. For all eternity……What a day glorious day that will be……

  84. To Benny, Joe and family, I am deeply saddened to hear of Joleen’s death. Having known her and Benny, having been coached little league baseball by Joe, and of course watching Jeff play sports ,softball and coach for years, Joleen was usually around somewhere. If you could not find her, just look for the biggest smile in the croud and that lady was behind it. May God bless the family in their time of pain and sorrow, but let it be known to us just visiting here that God has a very special guest now.

  85. To the Miller Family,
I am so sorry for your loss but nothing I can say will make you guys feel any better only time can.Joleen was a beatuiful person on inside and out and will be missed greatly. Love you guys and we are here for you if you need anything!!!!

  89. I am so sad to hear about Joleen. There are so many memories, when we were so young, that I will cherish and be thankful for. 98. Mr.and Mrs.Conner, Benny, Mitch and Misty,
However infrequent our visits, Joleen helped our family feel a part of your family. She was beautiful, gracious, and had an infectious exhuberance! I will not be able to visit again without seeing her by the pool and hearing her laughter floating ‘up the hill’. What a privilege it was to have known her. May God be with you all during this most trying time.
    All my love,

  99. We were so sorry to hear of Jolenes passing. I was so encouraged by her fight and the continued zest she had for life even through her illness. She always looked beautiful no matter if it was on the back of a motorcycle or at a ballgame, and always had a smile on her face.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

    With Sympathy,
Kim, Mike, Matt and Katie Dawson

  102. Dear Miller, Conner and Hendrix Family.

Just a note to let you know that you all have been in our thoughts and prayers during these trying times.

Joleen was such a beautiful, smart and vibrant person. Once you met Joleen you never forgot her….! She loved her God, her family and her church, which really showed anytime you talked with her. ‘SHE WAS A SPECIAL LADY’.

She was so good at whatever she was doing or ‘selling’. She was so good with the Partylite Candles, it’s no surprise that she went so far with that company. She also was so good with the Swiss Colony products etc.She put her whole heart into her parties. You just couldn’t help but smile when you were around her.

We,with Jack and Susie here in Florida, have been receiving daily reports on Joleen the past few weeks from Anita and David and others.

Again, please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

    Irma and Buddy Rudisill

  104. Dear Miller Family,
All of you have been on our hearts and in our prayers since we heard that Joleen’s illness had took a turn for the worst. Cancer is such a horrible disease and has lead you down a long and difficult road. Joleen is now completely restored as she is walking on streets of gold. I know she will be greatly missed. We are so sorry for your loss. She was a beautiful woman and always had a smile on her face. We love all of you and hope that you will let us know if there is anything we can do.
    Love,
    Erik and Allison Laney
