Albert William McFarlin, 92, of 125 Cedar Hill Road, Asheville, died Friday, January 11, 2008, at John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late G.H. and Pearl Moore McFarland. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Henson McFarlin, who died in 1996; brothers, Charles, Robert, Grover and Howard; sisters, Kathleen Smith and Wilma Davis.
Mr. McFarlin formerly worked at Asheville Hoisery Mill and Skyland Hoisery Mill but was a home builder for most of his life. He was a member of Candler House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Zennie Brown Elledge McFarlin; son, Von E. McFarlin of Candler; step-son, Carl Elledge of Weaverville; step-daughter, Doris Miller of Leicester; sisters, Louise McFarlin Cook and husband Doyle of Asheville and Betty McFarlin Lunsford of Weaverville; two granddaughters, Belinda Rickman and Melissa O’Kelley; 2 great-granddaughters, Melissa Smith and Samantha Smith; three step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Chuck Waldrup and G.W. Jameson officiating. Burial will follow at Snow Hill UMC Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

My condolences to the family of MY GRANDFATHER, Im sure Zennie has had alot on her mind and failed to remember Albert’s only daughter and only grandson in the obituary.
Our last few days with him were loving and good.
Albert and Wilma, my Grandma an Pa are finally together again.
MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF BILLY BEST, IN THE PASSING OF HIS GRANDFATHER. I AM GLAD FOR THE TIME HE AND HIS MOTHER LINDA GOT TO SHARE WITH ALBERT IN HIS LAST DAYS. ALBERT PASSED KNOWING HE WAS A BELOVED FATHER AND GRANDFATHER.
Billy, My heart is with you, and I am continuing to keep you in my prayers-as I have through your grandfather’s last days. I know this is hard for you and for your mom, but know that he is in Heaven. The entire Jamison Family of Candler keep our prayers with you, and it is comforting to see he will be laid to rest at my family’s church-Snow Hill. This man shaped your life and who you are, and you can always remember what he gave you and taught you through his life. God Bless!
