Alvin Martin Pack

Alvin M. Pack, 81, of 204 Gashes Creek Road, Asheville, died Friday, July 11, 2003, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Pack was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Carl and Mary Biddix Pack. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lydia Mathews and Elizabeth Miller and a brother Vernon Pack. He was retired from English and Blaylock Lumber Company. He is survived by his sister, Betty Jean Mintz of Nanjemoy, MD, and several nieces and nephews, including Dell Miller and Barbara English, whom he raised from childhood as a father. Services will be at 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Pastor Ron Chandley officiating. Burial will be at Gashes Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Asheville High Marine JROTC. His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
