Charles M. Rector

Rev. Charles Melvin Rector, 69, of 39 Monty St., Asheville, died Thursday, December 20, 2007, at Memorial Campus Mission Hospitals. A native of Haywood Co., Rev. Rector was a son of Willena Smith Rector of Canton and the late Jack Thomas Rector. Rev. Rector was a Southern Baptist minister for 35 years, serving churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1956 to 1960. In addition to his mother, Rev. Rector is also survived by his wife, Roxanne Moore Rector; and sister, Flo Sharpe, of Canton. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Newfound Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Chester Owenby officiating. His family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Memorials may be made to the Broyhill Baptist Children’s Home of NC, 111 Sneed Drive, Clyde, NC 28721.
