Dorothy Louise Souther, 90, of 66 East Porter Rd., Asheville, died Monday, December 3, 2007, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Buncombe Co., Mrs. Souther was a daughter of the late Miles and Maude Stroupe Trantham. She was a member of Gashes Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Souther is survived by her husband, Ernest W. Souther; daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Ballard and husband Roger, of Raleigh; grandson, Barry Ballard and wife Ruthie, and their son Ethan, all of Raleigh; and great-granddaughter, April Kresken, of Columbia, SC. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Lester Crayton and Charlie Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

  1. I was able to see aunt Dot and uncle Ernest at the Trantham family reunion last June. I spoke with aunt Dot and she still had that beautiful sparkle in her eyes. Uncle Ernest was right by her side, as he always was.
    I remember as a child going with my grandparents to the family reunions.
    Aunt Dot was so beautiful and kind.
    My grandmother, your aunt Bertie, passed 20 Dec 1990. We buried her on Christmas Eve. I truly believe she is waiting for her sister.
    I am sorry to hear of aunt Dot and uncle Ernest passing, but they are together and no longer in pain. We will see them again one day, along with all of their siblings.
