Asheville ~ Don Edward Payne, 52, of Asheville born November 22, 1954, passed away at his home on Satur-day, May 12, 2007. Raised in Fairview, Don bought a home in West Asheville, where he has since resided. Don?s biggest passion was his work. Whether he was selling Christmas trees with his family, selling family portraits all over the country, selling lumber, tearing down and restoring old buildings and homes, or laying flooring. Don was passionate about his work. Don loved his family. Don was preceded in death by his father, Lewis Edward Payne; his brother ? in ? Law, Carl Harrell and his nephew, Michael Harrell. He is survived by his mother, Mildred Payne of Fairview; one son, Jared Edward Payne and fiancé ƒatherine Allen of Durham; three sisters, Shirley Harrell of Skyland, Illa Jean Ingle of Fairview and Una Gail Banks of Mars Hill; a brother, John Payne of Weaverville; and his special, beloved friend Teresa Christenbury of Asheville; he has eight nieces and nephews and several great ? nieces and great ? nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road with Rev. James King officiating. Burial will follow in Tweeds Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 ? 9:00 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813.

  2. Don was a very good friend to our family. He spent alot of time visiting the shop just to hang out and talk. He was a good man. Our prayers will be to the family.
