Virgil Dean Kepner, 77, of Candler, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, January 2, 2007 following a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, sister, Patty Vigie and step-son, Larry Davis. Born December 28, 1929, in Goshen, Indiana, he was a barber and was the owner of Mug and Brush Barber Shop in Hendersonville for twenty years. He was a member of Hominy Masonic Lodge #491 and served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He and his wife “Flo” were involved with several dance clubs in Hendersonville, Asheville and Florida. He was a member of Pole Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mary “Flo” Kepner; two sons, Steve Kepner and wife Becky of Kettering, OH and Robert Kepner and wife Jennifer of St. Louis, IL; three daughters, Jill Miller and husband Paul of Millersburg, IN, Joan Wells and husband Sam of Grainger, IN and Angie Schmucker and husband Harold of Goshen, IN; a nephew, Vernon Young and wife Dottie of Noblesville, IN; stepsons, Allen Davis and wife Linda of Gainesville, GA, Dana Davis and wife Angie and Tracy Davis and wife Cherie all of Candler; 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He will also be greatly missed by his Yorkshire Terrier, “Missy”. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue with Rev. Dennis Thurman officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
