Bernydene Warren Shepherd, 79, of 2 East Ridge Ct., Fairview, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Campus Mission Hospitals. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Littleton and Nell Neil Howell Warren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James M. Shepherd, who died in 1999; son, Larry Shepherd; daughter, Sherry Shepherd; and two sisters, Sharon Ray, and Lanelle Tweed. Mrs. Shepherd was a member of Biltmore Methodist Church. Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her daughter, Janet Shepherd Brown and husband J.D., of Fairview; sons, Jim Shepherd and wife Susie, of Black Mountain, Tim Shepherd and wife Sammy, of Asheville, and Steven Shepherd, of Fairview; four sisters, Emily Cabe, of Hickory, Jean McIntosh and Margaret McQueen, both of Fairview, and Pat Edwards, of Asheville; two brothers, Tom Warren, of Asheville, and Dan Warren, of Hartwell, GA; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Daryll Searcy and Andy Ray officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.

  1. Tim when I think of your mother I’m reminded of her smile. Always smiling, always called me by name.
    It was always a blessing to see Bernydene at the ball games or the store. I am forever thankful for all the rides to football practice from your parents. Look to God during this time for his unending comfort, grace and strength.

We will miss Bernydene,she was very special to me and Alan she always said Alan was her favorite and just laugh.She’s now in a beautiful place in heaven with the Lord and her other family, we will see her again real soon!!!   7. DEC.15 – I WANTED TO COME VISIT WITH YOU TONIGHT BUT I’M RUNNING A LITTLE FEVER AND KNEW I BETTER STAY AWAY. I DID WANT TO LET YOU AND YOUR FAMILY KNOW THAT WE LOVE YOU AND AM SORRY FOR THE LOSS OF YOUR MOM, AND THAT YOU ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS NOT JUST NOW BUT ALSO IN THE DAYS AND WEEKS AHEAD. YOUR MOM WAS A SPECIAL WOMAN TO A LOT OF PEOPLE IN FAIRVIEW – I STILL CRAVE ONE OF HER BARBECUE SANDWICHES FROM THE CONCESSION STAND. LEAN ON GOD DURING THIS TIME, HE CARES AND LOVES YOU SO MUCH. I AM SO GLAD GOD GAVE US ‘SPECIAL MEMORIES’ OF THOSE WE LOVE THAT WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US. HANG ON TO THEM.
