Asheville, NC – James Patrick Doyle, 87, died Wednesday, October 11, 2006. Born October 26, 1918 in Amatol, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Patrick Edward and Anna King Doyle. Formerly of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey, he lived in Asheville, NC for the past 11 years. He graduated from Cooper Union in New York with a degree in mechanical engineering and earned his masters degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. James retired from Gibbs & Cox, naval architects, in New York. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy DeLeyer Doyle; son, Steven Doyle, and his wife Debbie, of Evansville, Wisconsin; daughter, Jackie Doyle, and her husband Stephen Gutierrez , of Castro Valley, California and one grandson, Ben Doyle Gutierrez. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Dean Cesa officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    I so fondly recall the warmth of your home in Mountain Lakes which you welcomed Jackie’s friends into…time and time again. You were such nice parents and your dear husband was one of the few ‘fathers’ that seemed more like a ‘daddy’ to all of us. I can still see him sitting in his chair and laughing at all of us silly girls dress in our fashionable ‘granny gowns.’ My thoughts and gratitude are with you.
