Rev. James E. Davis, 87, formerly of Michigan Avenue, Asheville, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Richmond Hill Retirement Center.
A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Amos and Sally Fortner Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ida Willis Davis, who died in 1988 and a daughter, Patricia Ann Davis. He was retired from Thomas and Howard Wholesale Grocers.
Survivors include a daughter, Tina Boegemann and husband David of Alexander; a son, Ed Davis and wife Paulette of Asheville; two brothers, Orb and Claude Davis of Marshall; twelve grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Larry and Terry Sprouse officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens.
His family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm Saturday prior to the service.

Teen, Ed, and Paulette, I was so saddened to hear this, but we all know where this sweet, precious man is!!! I wish we were still right across from you Paulette like old times!!! We love and miss you all very much!!!
Dear Family , I am so sorry to hear about Uncle James .You all will have many hard days ahead of you .Keep remembering the good times and know his suffering on this earth is over .He will forevermore reap his eternal rewards in heaven and that is something to rejoice about . If I can do anything for any of you please let me know .
