Katherine Hawkins “Kitty” Russell, 83, of Arbor Terrace, Skyland, formerly of Oak Forest, Asheville, died Monday, April 24, 2006, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center. An Asheville native, Mrs. Russell was daughter of the late Frank and Cartha Brown Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Russell, and a sister, Martha Stillwell. A graduate of Lee Edwards High and of Blanton’s Business College, Mrs. Russell was a member of Royal Arcanum and of Biltmore Baptist Church and the Nancy Riggins Sunday School Class. Mrs. Russell is survived by a daughter, Marilyn White, of Lawrenceville, GA; a son, Bobby Russell and his wife, Linda, of Fletcher; three grandchildren, Trevor White and Miranda White of Lawrenceville, GA, and William Hunnicutt of Asheville; and one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Macy Hunnicutt. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold Savell and Riland Whitehead officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC, 28813.
