Grace Edna Allen, 97, formerly of Asheville, died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, in Elizabethton, TN.
Mrs. Allen was born in Madison County and was a daughter of the late James and Iola Payne. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Hampton Allen in 1960, and Winfred Craft in 1982. She was a former resident of Detroit, MI and Washington, DC before returning to Asheville in 1985. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Rose M. Cox of Ocala, FL; one grandchild, Laura Jean Gullett, and one sister, Bernice Hart of Elizabethton.
Graveside services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Jackson at 2:00 PM, Friday at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory.

I never had the oportunity to meet Grace. Orthel Clements was my grandfather. I went to a few reunions when they had them. I have visited with Blanche a couple times in the last few years with my parents John and Floreaca Clements. I would have loved to have known Grace and learn more of the Payne family life in Tennessee and North Carolina. At ninety seven I would think she was tired of this world and ready to move on to the next. I hope you have many pleasant memories of your mother to share with your loved ones. May Cramer
