James Donald Baird

James Donald “Jim” Baird, 71, formerly of Edgewood Road, Candler, died Thursday, February 6, 2003, at the VA Medical Center. Born in the Democrat section of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late Dr. Donald and Grace Ray Baird. He was a graduate of Barnardsville High School, Warren Wilson College and Appalachian State University and a US Army Veteran serving in Korea and Japan. He retired as a social worker with the Buncombe County Department of Social Services after 28 years of service, was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of Biltmore Church of Christ. He is survived by three aunts, Mrs. Clyde Ray Green and Mrs. Landon Ray of Asheville, Jean Baird Stewart of Mars Hill and several cousins. Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Jim Hunter officiating. The Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team will provide military honors.
