Clyde B. Satterwhite died Saturday, February 18, 2006, at the Hospice Solace Center. Born August 15, 1926, he was the son of the late Clyde B. and Kate Hicks Satterwhite. He grew up in Salisbury and served with the US Marine Corps in the Pacific during WW II. He attended Catawba College in Salisbury, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York. During a 35-year career as a newspaperman he worked for the Salisbury Post, the Richmond (VA)News Leader, the New York World Telegram and the New York Daily News. He retired in 1988 and returned to Asheville in 1993. He is survived by two brothers, Dan and his wife, Gypsy, of Asheville and Jerry and his wife, Jean, of Indian Springs, AL; six nieces, Lisa and husband Martyn Darby of Chapel Hill, Julie and husband Ken Fussell of Arden, Ashley and husband Tim Adams of Nashville, TN, Alison and husband Todd Craig of Alabaster, AL, and Amy Self of Helena, AL; one nephew, Dan Satterwhite, Jr. and wife, Tina, of Wilton Springs, FL; four grandnieces, six grandnephews, and his special friend, Lynn Hill of Asheville. Private services will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Bldg. 1, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
