Cameron L. Smith, 85, of 49 Nevada Avenue, Asheville, died Sunday, January 15, 2006, at his home.
A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late Jennings and Pearl Gill Smith. He was married for 58 years to Ruth Arrington Smith, who died August 22, 2005, and was also preceded in death by a
sister, Betty Dalton. Mr. Smith was a long distance driver for ETL and Mason Dixon Trucking Companies and was a member of Merrimon Avenue Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn Martin and her husband, Gary, of Advance; a son, Chuck Smith and his wife, Willie, of Fletcher; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a sister, Louise McCormick of Ames, IA.
A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, Asheville, with the Rev. Jim Russell officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
