Asheville ~ On Tuesday, September 27, 2005, James “Burl” Edward Hare, 77, of 70 Little Knob Road, Asheville, was called home to be with God, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mr. Hare was a man of few words, but had a heart made of gold. He was a native of Buncombe County and before his retirement he worked heavy construction for G.E. Crouch Co., Hendricks Construction, and Earth Moving Corporation.
Mr. Hare was the son of the late Frances and Andrew Hare, of Pinners Cove, the loving brother of the late Andrew Hare, Jr. and his late brother-in-law, Don Riddle, all waiting to welcome him home to a place with peace and no more pain.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Dorothy O. Hare of Fairview; two broken hearted daughters and their husbands, Linda and Ronald Jones of Baltimore, MD., Marlean and Robert Ponder of Asheville; grandchildren, Shawn Allen, Christopher and Meagan King, Brandon and LeAnne King, Katie Ponder, and Katelyn Jones; two great-grandchildren, Avery Conard and Kaylee King, all with whom he shared his wisdom and set a wonderful example.
He is also survived by two wonderful brothers and their wives, Donald and Betty Lou Hare of Asheville, Walter and Mary Ruth Hare of Chadwick, GA. and a loving sister, Marian Riddle of Fletcher; three special sister-in-laws, Lillian Hare, Maretta Robinson and Hester Beachboard all of Asheville.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Donald Hare officiating.
The family will gather at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road from 1:00 – 1:30 P.M. Friday prior to the service and then proceed to the cemetery and will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. So he closed his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me”. You didn’t deserve what you went through. And so he gave you rest. God’s garden must be beautiful. He only takes the best. In tears we saw you sinking, we watched you fade away, Our hearts were broken, you fought so hard to stay. But when we saw you sleeping, so peacefully – Free From Pain. We could not wish you back, to suffer the pain. We Love You Daddy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, P.O. Box 25338 Asheville, NC 28813.
