Julia Ann Howington Jones, 79, of 18 Jeffress Avenue, Asheville, died Friday, May 13, 2005, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek. Mrs. Jones was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Columbus H. and Holly Isabelle Stewart Howington and was the last surviving sibling of eight children. She was also preceded in death by her husband Charlie N. Jones and was a member of Midway Baptist Church. Surviving are two daugters, Sharon Carlyle of Flat Rock and Lorrie Jones-Hartley of Apex; a son Charles N. Jones, Jr. of Hendersonville; three step-daughters, Charlene Jenkins and Martha Ann Holcombe, both of Georgia and Rosemary Zimmerman and her husband David of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and fourteen step-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Penland officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.

  6. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother Julia.Her sister Myrtle married my uncle Francis Lindsey.I introduced her to Charlie and we used to double date and i spent a lot of time with Julia when i was young so i always felt part of the Howington family.
