William Lee Williamson, Jr., 83, of Asheville, passed away peacefully at the Mountain Area Hospice Center on Monday, May 2, 2005. He was an Asheville native and was born February 11, 1922, to the late William Lee Williamson and Cora Setzer Williamson. He was a graduate of Lee H. Edwards High School and was the former co-owner of Stoney Knob Grocery and the Candler Market for many years. Mr. Williamson was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church for 45 years. He served as Chairman of the Administrative Board and as a Trustee of the church. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Edna Rice Williamson and by a sister Bonnie King and brothers Sherman, Ralph and Harry. He is survived by his second wife, Evelyn Wise Williamson; one brother Jack E. Williamson and his wife Kay of Asheville. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Skipper Watwood at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home. His family will greet friends following the ervice. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Green Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 223 Hillside Street, Asheville, NC 28801, or to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
