Kermit Gillis

Kermit Gillis, 72, a longtime resident of Fairview, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 18, 2005 at his home after a period of declining health. Kermit was born in Weaverville, NC and was an Army veteran. He retired from Philips Electronics after 25 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rosa Owenby Gillis; two daughters, Donna Moore of Fairview and Wanda Suttles and husband Bob of Mills River; two sons, Kermit Douglas Gillis and wife Ninon of Milwaukee WI and Randy Gillis and wife Kris of Mills River; four grandchildren, Lisa Bean of Fairview, Jennifer Robertson of Arden, Allison Gillis and Kyle Gillis of Wisconsin; four step-grandchildren, Tisha and Desiree Nichols of Wisconsin and Mark McGraw of Arden and Karla McGraw of Charlotte and one great-grandson, Zachary "Ty" Bean of Fairview. A funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Avery Owenby officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Wednesday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
