November 21, 1944 ~ October 20, 2026

Born in: Norfolk, Virginia
Resided in: Fairview, North Carolina

Donnie Clifton Dotson, 81, of Fairview, passed peacefully into Heaven on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026 with his loving wife by his side.

A lifelong resident of Fairview, Donnie was born November 21st, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Mayme and Don Dotson. Donnie spent many years working for Suburban Propane and later retired from Asheville Bolt and Screw. He was a member at Trinity of Fairview Church and loved fellowshipping with his Sunday School Group. If you ever needed to find Donnie, he was outside working in the garden or tinkering in the shed.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Joyce Owenby Dotson and their son, Steve along with his wife Carolyn. He was affectionately known as Pepaw by his two granddaughters, Kristy Dotson and Kelly McDougal and her husband Brian McDougal. He will be sorely missed by his “good buddies”; his three great grandsons; Bryson, Sawyer & Grayson McDougal. He also leaves behind three sisters (Linda Dotson, Kay Houck & Wanda Galante) as well as a brother (Joe Dotson) and his wife Pat and a loving sister-in-law (Betty Dotson). Special cousin, Cliff Dotson, will forever miss Donnie and his endless gardening advice. There are also many nieces, nephews and cousins who he held dearly in his heart. Welcoming him home to heaven are his precious son, Timothy Dotson as well as his brother, Stanley Dotson alongside his Mother and Father.

Friends and family are invited to gather at the graveside for a small service at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery (212 Bethany Church Rd, Fairview) on Friday, October 23 at 4:00 PM.

Groce Funeral Home’s Lake Julian team is assisting the family.

Guestbook

  1. Joyce, Steve and Carolyn

We loved and will miss Donnie but thankful he is no longer suffering. All of you are in our prayers. We love you❤️

  2. Joyce I know you miss him and your family will too. Just remember he is in Heaven with the Father and Jesus!!! He would not want to come back❣️

  3. A really good neighbor and friend for many years. A man who was always willing to help and a great source of wisdom in gardening matters for those of us not blessed with a green thumb. For years, Donnie and I had many “fence visits” (usually sitting on a mower or tractor) though we did not have a fence. He is missed and will be missed by many. I am thankful that he is at peace with Jesus.

  4. We are so sorry to hear this but we know he is better off. Donnie was always such a nice person. He will surely be missed not only by his family but by all that knew him. Kenny and Linda Reed

  5. Donnie had a servants heart and while he served the Lord at Trinity of Fairview food pantry he was a such a delight to be with. He is missed!
