Elizabeth “Libby” Moore (Sammons), 88, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
Libby was born in Marrowbone Creek, West Virginia, to the late Golden and Lorraine Sammons (Parsley). She was also preceded in death by her sister, Irene Saba; two brothers, Golden Sammons Jr. and Arlend Sammons; and her grandson, Daniel Stevens.
Libby was a longtime member of Reed Memorial Baptist Church starting in 1968, before becoming a member of Trinity of Fairview following Covid-19. Socially active and deeply devoted to her faith, she regularly participated in Women’s Bible studies and Vacation Bible School, and served as the treasurer of Reed Memorial for many years. She could always be found helping with Wednesday night dinners and annual yard sales—a true testament to her loving Christian faith and dedication as a mother. She made sure her children grew up in church, and her daily devotion to scripture, prayer, and generosity set an inspiring example in her home.
As a beloved wife and homemaker, Libby cultivated a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Her infectious smile and kind, joyful spirit made everyone feel invited and loved. Libby was happiest when surrounded by family. She was the best mother anyone could have asked for and the ultimate “Mamaw”—a role she treasured above all else.
She enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, camping, and surf fishing on the Outer Banks. She loved playing games with her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and her home was famous for hot chocolate and cookies on snow days (along with being the original pioneer of “pajama days”).
While her family will miss her dearly, they take comfort in knowing she was greeted by a beautiful reunion of loved ones as she arrived at her eternal home, free from pain and restored in mind.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Bobby “Bob” Moore; her two children, Suzanne McDevitt (Mark) and Robert Moore; five grandchildren, Amy Davis (Clint), Kayla Roberts (Chris), Kelsey Moore (Devon Taylor), Katelyn Stevens, and Caroline Holtzman (Jacob); her sister, Betty Sue Sammons; as well as several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, with Pastor Stacey Harris officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home.
