Lawrence ("LP") Scott Percival

Lawrence Scott Percival, known to his close friends as LP, passed away in Arden, North Carolina on August 1, 2026 at the age of 64. Lawrence was born on November 8, 1961 to the late Madelin and Worth Percival. His childhood was spent in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, with summers at the family’s cottage in Alden, where he treasured swimming, sailing and fishing on his beloved Torch Lake.

Following his family’s relocation to St. Louis, Missouri, Lawrence attended Principia School in Town & Country. In 1978, his family moved to Northern Virginia, and Lawrence completed his high school years at Principia School as a boarding student. He went on to attend the University of Tampa and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

Lawrence eventually returned to Virginia, where he began a career in the restaurant industry, working in both Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. While working in Washington, he was offered a position at Gallagher’s Steakhouse at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, beginning a career that would take him from Las Vegas to Scottsdale, Arizona, and Palm Springs, California. He eventually settled in Asheville, North Carolina, where he joined the staff of Biltmore Forest Country Club in 2018. Lawrence developed a deep affection for the Club and treasured the many lasting friendships he formed there with members and colleagues alike. His warmth, quick wit, and genuine care for others made him deeply valued and remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Lawrence’s greatest passion was golf, a game he loved deeply and enjoyed throughout his high school years and adult life. He spent countless hours on the golf course, where he found not only great enjoyment in the game, but also friendship, camaraderie, and many cherished memories. In February 2023 he started the Links Lounge forum on the GolfWRX website where he was a frequent and enthusiastic contributor. He was especially proud that, by March 2025, the forum had reached one million views. His love of sports extended beyond golf to football, and he also enjoyed bringing people together through the NFL Weekly Picks Group.

Lawrence is best remembered for his intelligence, kindness and wonderful sense of humor. He took great delight in making others laugh and had a special gift for bringing joy to those around him. His avatar on the Links Lounge forum was a court jester – a fitting reflection of his playful spirit and quick wit. As a younger man, Lawrence was full of boundless energy and loved participating in dance contests, which he won with surprising regularity.

He is survived by his sister, Lisa Percival, who does, and will always, miss him dearly.

As Revelation 21:4 promises: And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
