Resided in: Swannanoa, NC

Tina Marie Abbott, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on May 21, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 9, 1957, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to J.W. “Big Daddy” Abbott and Bonnie “Bamba” Abbott.

Tina took great pride in caring for those she loved. Whether it was the years she spent caring for her mother, raising her boys, or working as a nurse, she gave her love wholeheartedly.

Tina found joy in life’s simple things: animals, gardening, camping, gemstones, and celebrating Halloween. More than anything, Tina treasured the time she spent surrounded by family and friends.

Tina was preceded in death by her sister, Ginnie. She is survived by her children, Chris and Josh; her granddaughter, Bailey; her sister, Anne; and her brother, John.

A celebration of Tina’s life will be held on Sunday, May 31, at 2:00 p.m. at the home of Tom and Rose Corbett, where family and friends are invited to gather to share memories and remembrance in honor of a life well lived.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bounty & Soul, whose support meant so much to Tina.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.

  1. Tina, you recently told me I was the “cats meow!” But really that was YOU all along! Thank you for raising the most genuine and kind hearted son. I will cherish him forever just as you have. We’ll miss you always xoxo

  2. Oh how sad. Tina worked with us at the Florist for a few years. We LOVE her. She had such a pleasant personality and fun since of humor. She enjoyed working at the flowers shop and had a true love for flowers and plants. Our thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. I am sure we will see her in heaven again one day. Please let us know if we can help in any way. -Kaylynne

  3. So sad to hear of the passing of one of my high school buddies. So sorry I wasn’t able to get to the UH reunion this year as I heard a grand time was had by all! Sending thoughts and prayers!

  4. I’m so very, very saddened by this news! Tina was my very best friend for the past 4 yrs and we talked almost every single day. I’m going to miss her for the rest of my life!

  5. I loved Tina! She was such a wonderful Aunt!!! She always had a smile on her face!! I love you Tina!!!

  6. This news makes me so sad to hear. Enjoyed seeing Tina a few years ago at the UH reunion Prayers for all the family🙏🏻

  7. Oh, Tina! I’m so very blessed that you and I had one last ‘Slumber Party’ when you came over to one of the UH Multi- Year Class Reunions in June of 2023! We didn’t waste a moment of that time together “sleeping!” We stayed up all night laughing and giggling and “Remembering When”…birthday parties, slumber parties, Cheerleading together all those years at UH, Munsey Sunday School, Munsey Youth Group, Confirmation Classes – which my Grandfather “Dr. Blackard” taught and also he gave us our first Communion…. and, also every Sunday you and your Sweet Mother sat in the pew just behind us – of course, we all sat right up front, on the right hand side of the Sanctuary in the first three rows! (Notice they never “trusted” us to sit “side by side” together on the SAME ROW – ever again after the first time…..) We’ve known each other since 1963 – which is a life time – all thru elementary school, junior high, high school and well beyond!

I’m not going to say “Good Bye”…. but I am going to say “See You Later!” … because I know I will!

I love you so much! You and your wit and infectious LAUGH will be greatly missed!

    “Marie” Eloise Wexler

  8. My condolences to Tina’s family and friends. Even though we weren’t in the same class at U.H., I clearly remember you and your sweet smile. Rest easy, Tina…and God bless you.

  9. It’s always sad to hear of an old friend passing- when I think of Tina, I see her beautiful long dark hair, smile and remember her sweet disposition. While Tina was my older sister’s friend, she was always kind. I have fond memories of her spending time at our house, and cheerleading together and church at Munsey!

  10. Tina was a wonderful person and one of the best nurses I ever worked with. She left an amazing mark on this world with her caring and compassion. Loved her so.
