Asheville Butterfly TrailHerman Lance, 98, of Asheville, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
A Buncombe Co. native and lifelong resident of Bent Creek, Herman was a son of the late Will and Edna Creasman Lance. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Catherine C. Lance.
He is survived by his children, Janice Daniels (Nick) and Gary Lance (June); and brother, Harold Lance, all of Asheville. He is also survived by two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and his special caregiver, Jennifer.
Mr. Lance was a custom homebuilder and earned the distinction of master carpenter. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and, in his later years, gardening.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The graveside service will take place the following day at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Carl Bishop will officiate.
