Donald Eugene Wardrup, 68, of Fairview, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. He would have turned 69 on May 8.

A Buncombe Co. native, Donald was a son of the late Tommy Glen, Sr., and Nora Lou Marlowe Wardrup. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, and worked for many years as a welder at Smithway, Inc.

He will be remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved horseback riding, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and family. He loved everyone he knew.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Jean Wardrup; daughter, Christina Rebecca Sacco (Jay); son, Dustin Lee Wardrup; brothers, Glen Wardrup, Joe Wardrup, Woody Wardrup (Lynn), and Johnny Wardrup; grandchildren, Madison Hall, Machias Gayer, and Malichi Gayer; four nieces and three nephews.

The memorial service will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at Smith Farms, 20 Smith Farm Rd., Fairview, NC 28730. All are welcome to attend.

  1. Donnie was the grandfather of my grandsons. In the time that I have known him, he was a very caring person. Even though he wasn’t a blood relative, he was like family to me.
