Charles Sylvanus Coxie, 92 of Asheville and Mauldin, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
A native of Pelzer, SC, Charles was a son of the late Silas and Cora Bell Haney Coxie. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Lowe Coxie.
Charles proudly served his country in the US Navy for four years and also served in the National Guard for an additional four years. He was a graduate of Woodfin High School and attended Blanton’s Business College. Charles retired as an engineer with Southern Railway and also spent time working in golf course maintenance. He was an ordained minister at Biltmore Holiness Temple with Pastor G.A. McCurry and later pastored the Open Door Cathedral in Asheville, until his retirement.
Charles was an avid golfer for 75 years. His loved singing and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He traveled with his wife, Kathleen, their family and the Journeymen in ministry for over 50 years.
Charles is survived by two daughters, Lynn Coxie Robbins (Everett) and Charlene Coxie Powers (Michael); grandchildren, Nathaniel Dale Rhew (Trish), Michael Dustin Powers (Katie), Fran Cheeks (Marcus), Sherrill Reeder (Chetyuane) and Logan Tucker; nine great-grandchildren, including Allyson Lynn Rhew and Thomas Noah Powers and one brother, Elza Lee Coxie.
A Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, April 22 in the Chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. His family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Burial and Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM that afternoon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

So sorry to hear this news. We know he is where he has longed to be. We have many good memories of Charles.
So very sorry ! He was a wonderful man of God! He will truly be missed! He and Kathleen are now together . Much love and prayers for all this family as they have to say goodbye for now!

Such a reunion in heaven! I cannot express how good Charles was to my family! He came anytime we needed him. I always had to make a pot of coffee for him. I made it a point to take him homemade fudge when I made it. Such a good neighbor as well. The golfers miss him dearly at Muni. Take care of each other! Luv y’all
