Winifred Louise Williamson, 100, of Asheville, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Flesher’s Fairview Healthcare Center in Fairview, North Carolina. She was born on March 6, 1926 in Sandusky, Ohio to the late Albert and Mabel Kinsel. Winifred (aka “Win”) was determined to make it to 100 years old and she had a wonderful party at her nursing home – attended by family and church friends.
She attended Oberlin College to pursue a degree in music. She continued her education by obtaining a Masters Degree in Music Education from Ohio State University and retired after many years teaching music in Mansfield, Ohio. Win had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling and seeing our beautiful country. Her father worked as a telegrapher at the New York Central Railroad in Huron, Ohio. She used her rail benefits to take a cross country train trip as a young woman. One of her favorite trips was to China and a walk on the Great Wall. She was a longtime member of Groce United Methodist Church in Asheville and enjoyed singing in their choir. Win also participated in many volunteer projects, such as, knitting hats for cancer survivors and singing in a choir group that visited nursing homes.
Her friendly and gracious smile will be missed by her Scenic Park friends and her family.
