February 14, 1938 ~ April 5, 2026

Born in: Buncombe County, NC
Resided in: Candler, NC

Candler- Wilma Taylor, 88, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at the Landings at Mills River.

A native of Buncombe County, Wilma was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Aileen Williams Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Billy Gene Taylor; a daughter, Brenda Toney; a sister, Ina Ray as well as two brothers, Sam and John Brown.

Wilma was a devoted Pastor’s wife, serving alongside her husband, Billy, at 14 churches in the Pentecostal Holiness Denomination over 53 years of ministry.

She and Billy shared their lives here on earth for 63 years and now are spending an eternity together in heaven with the God they’ve loved and served all their lives.

She was a loving Mother and Grandmother (Granny), always putting their needs above her own. She made sure special days and holidays were celebrated and everything was provided to give them the best possible experience and celebration.

She was also an amazing sister. She and Billy always made sure her brothers and sisters were picked up for church, whether Skyland, Clear Branch or Greenville, TN. They provided a place for them to stay and spend time together many summers after moving to Tennessee.

Wilma was a very creative floral designer; she could take the simplest of things and turn them into beautiful arrangements and designs. She was able to pass that creative gift down to her daughter (Debi) and granddaughter (Jennifer).

She was most definitely an excellent cook that provided wonderful meals for her family as well as friends, visiting guests and evangelists that came to their home and churches over the years of ministry they spent together.

Wilma was loved by everyone who knew her. She was loving and accepting of the many people God brought into her life; a confidant and prayer warrior who believed in the power of prayer and God’s ability to answer.

Our loss is certainly heaven’s gain. She will definitely be missed here on earth, but we’re looking forward to that “Glad Reunion Day” when we will spend eternity together in the presence of our Lord and Savior.

Wilma is survived by a daughter, Debi Stanaland (Tommy) of Asheville; a son, Mark Taylor (Tammy Case) of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Michelle Taylor; a son-in-law, Randall Toney; two sisters, Sandra Penley of Candler and Wanda Tate of Lake Keowee, SC; a brother, Richard Brown of Greenville, TN; seven grandchildren, Scott, Will, Jennifer, Josh, Cody, Devin, and Zach; four great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Eli, Ace and Ellie Mae as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Biltmore Church of God on Sweeten Creek Road with Rev. Dr. Dale Whitson and Rev. Lonnie Ray officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Candler.

  1. Jennifer I am so sorry to hear the loss of your grandmother. If there is anything you or your family needs please let me know. My thoughts and prayers are with each one during this time.

  2. Wilma Taylor was a “Crown Jewel”. She fiercely loved her God and she served Him well. Never have I seen such love for her family! By experience of the loss of my Mother your lives will never be the same. Yiu will miss her every day. Our only Hope is we will be reunited with our loved ones! Our prayers for this precious family! She served the Gastonia Pentecostal Holiness Church as a Pastor’s Wife well…loved her dearly. Rita Bates Jones and Family

  3. To my dear aunt Wilma, though out hearts are heavy, we find peace knowing the joy of the reunion taking place in heaven today. You’re back in the arms of Granny and Papa, catching up with Sam and Ina and standing beside my dad again. What a beautiful welcome they must have given you. I can’t wait until we are all together again.

  4. God blessed us all with Wilma. She and Billy were the most special people. Condolences to her family.

  5. I love that aunt Wilma was born on Valentine’s Day and went to heaven on Easter Sunday! God created a very special lady and gave her a special birthday on earth and a special birthday in heaven! She has etched her laughter and beautiful smile forever in my heart and will always be cherished!

  6. Wilma, you will forever be missed until we meet again. We will see you again before long. What a day we will have when we all get there, looking forward to our reunion, We will forever love you, till we meet again. Love you !

  7. Debi and family, I am praying for you and know Jesus is delighted with his good and faithful servant coming home. The loss of your mother’s presence here on earth is a huge gain in heaven. I love you

  8. As one of the younger set of our family of seven children, Wilma and Bill made sure at our young ages we went to Sunday School and Church. Starting in a church of about 30 to 50 people, called Skyland Pentecostal on to Clear Branch, Greenville and Kingsport TN churches, Wilma and Bill had a part of us knowing our Savior, Jesus. When they moved to the Tennessee churches, we would spend two week summers with them. Both of them were true pastors. Pastors that had a heart for building churches, helping others, giving those who needed help, a door to open and change for the better. She, like her mother, was a great cook who has fed many. God has welcomed to Heaven on Easter morning, a daughter who has served Him well. “Well done my good and faithful servant.” Heaven is real and “sister” we are ready to follow those of us who believe. We love you,

  9. Ryan,
Keeping you, Lori and family in our thoughts and prayers.
    Love you,
    Donald and Carol
