Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Candler, NC

Joyce Blalock McCarson, 79, of Candler, NC, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on April 1, 2026.

She was born and raised in Asheville, NC. An accomplished registered histotechnician, she was recognized nationally for her work and dedicated 43 years of service to Mission Hospital before retiring. While she took great pride in her career, her most cherished role was being a devoted and loving mother to her two children.

She loved Jesus and her family deeply and was a faithful member of her church community. She found joy in reading and preparing songs to sing at church. She was truly a ray of sunshine; her smile could light up a room. She went out of her way to make sure those in her life knew they were loved. She will be remembered for her resourcefulness, humor, silliness, and kindness.

She leaves behind a grieving family who loved her fiercely: her husband of 45 years, Tommy Lee McCarson, Sr.; her brother, James Blalock, and her sister, Jean Rice. She also leaves behind her children, David Ashley Lindsay (Katherine) and Tara Lindsay Brummett (Jake); her stepchildren, Tommy Lee McCarson, Jr. (Tammy) and Daniel Ray McCarson (Angela); her grandchildren, Samuel David Lindsay, Corbin Walker Brummett, Hope Nicole Slagle, Jesse Dean Slagle (Kayla), April McCarson Crain, Autumn McCarson Holder, and Anthony Lee McCarson; and her great-grandchildren, Aria Louise Lindsay, Harper Everdean Slagle, and many others whom she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Theodore and Viola House Blalock, and her sisters, Mary Jane Blalock Hensley and Mary Joella Blalock Rigsby.

She will be remembered for making ordinary moments feel special and for her wonderful cooking, which brought so much joy to those she loved.

Services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Candler. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Guestbook

  1. My prayers to all of my dearest friend’s family as we graduated together & got to be with Joyce at our 60th class reunion last September. Thankful for her walk with God and to know her was to love her. I will see her one day in heaven.

  2. I send my heartfelt condolences to my friend’s family, Joyce Blalock McCarson. Joyce was a dear friend in high school.

Words are so shallow and my heart is shattered for Joyce’s precious family.
We were honored to be with Joyce at our 60th class reunion.

Family, please know my prayers will be with you and in the difficult days ahead. May God comfort each one of you.

    Sincerely,
    Dianne Burleson Phillips

    • Joyce was always a joyful person to talk to. Anytime I saw her at Mission Hospital she was always so pleasant and smiling. Now she is smiling in Heaven.

  3. Tara and family; I am so sorry for your loss! You are in my prayers! Sending you much love!

  4. I felt Joice’s gentle and loving spirit at our last reunion, and I cherish each moment that I spent with her. I will never forget her smile as we sang our school song. Her voice carried us through the lyrics and put a song in our hearts forever.
