Cashiers, NC
Resided in:
Asheville, NC
Constance “Connie” Hyatt Mitchell, 84, of Asheville, NC died on April 14, 2025 at Pardee Hospital surrounded by family. Daughter of Willis and Lillian Hyatt, she was born on June 25, 1940 in Cashiers, NC where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood.
When she moved to Asheville to attend Blanton’s Junior College, she met and fell in love with Robert Mitchell. They were married on November 24, 1962. Connie’s main vocation was homemaker and raising her four children: Jennifer, Bobby, Melissa, and April. When they were grown, she worked for many years at Ingles bakery.
Throughout her life Connie was devoted to her family: raising four children, taking care of grandchildren, and helping to care for her parents in their later years. She enjoyed keeping in touch with relatives all over the country – her many nieces and nephews were especially dear. And family transcended bloodlines – if you were loved by one of her kids, she loved you too. She was a wonderful cook whether it be breakfast for herself and Robert before he left for work, or feeding two dozen at a family gathering. While never materially wealthy, she was quick to give whatever she had if it would help someone in need. She enjoyed country and gospel music, reminiscing about Cashiers, talking on the phone and texting with friends and relatives, and watching Hallmark movies and sports. Most of all she loved being with family.
Connie was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa Mitchell; her husband, Robert E. Mitchell Sr., her sister, Catherine Brank; and her parents, Willis and Lillian Hyatt. She is survived by her children: Jennifer Blankenship (Randy), Robert “Bobby” E. Mitchell Jr., April Nance (Chad), honorary daughter Kim Fordham; grandchildren: Constance “CJ” Kyle (Ryan), Dusty Blankenship (Ellie), Mitchell Nance, and Will Nance; great granddaughter Charlie Rose Blankenship; sister Nancy Griffin; brother Robert “Bud” Hyatt (Wanda); and many beloved nieces and nephews.
