Resided in: Asheville, NC

Carole Elaine Kabel (née Albee) was welcomed into the loving presence of our Lord on
Holy Monday, April 14, 2025. Born on October 25, 1940, in Batavia, New York, she was
the eldest daughter of the late Irving and Florence Albee. A dedicated nurse, Carole
graduated from nursing school in 1960 and poured her heart into caring for others over
a remarkable 60-year career.
Carole’s warmth and kindness touched everyone she met. As a devoted wife, mother,
grandmother, and great-grandmother, her love enveloped her family. Her gentle spirit
also made her a treasured friend. From cookies to pies to cakes, her baked delicacies
were legendarily mouth-watering. A skilled dressmaker, she was equally skilled in
crocheting, creating blankets and baby clothes her family has treasured for decades. A
voracious reader, she found constant joy in the pages of a good book, but her truest
happiness came from time spent with her beloved family, whom she held as the heart of
her life. A faithful Catholic, Carole was a devoted parishioner of St. Lawrence Basilica in
Asheville for 34 years. To know her was to be blessed by her grace, and her memory
will be long cherished.
Carole’s beloved husband of 60 years, John E. Kabel, passed before her on November
17, 2021.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her sons, Jon Kabel (Patricia) of Lancaster, PA,
Stephen Kabel (Suzanne) of Black Mountain, NC, and Dana Kabel of Asheville, NC; her
brothers, Don Albee (Susan) of Statesville, NC, and Michael Albee of Batavia, NY; and
her sister, Sharon Barone (Ron) of Stafford, NY. Her seven grandchildren, two great-
grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews will keep her love alive in their hearts.
Carole was predeceased by her parents, Irving and Florence Albee, her brother Clair
Albee, and her sisters Alanna McCleod and Jayne Gaebler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 23, at the
Basilica of St. Lawrence, with Reverend Monsignor Roger Arnsparger as celebrant. She
will be laid to rest alongside her husband John at 12:00 pm at the State Veterans
Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC .
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials to the Basilica of St. Lawrence,
97 Haywood Street, Asheville, NC 28801, a place so dear to Carole’s heart.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is honored to assist the family during this time.
