Wayne Eugene McAbee, 75, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025.
A native of Buncombe Co., Wayne was a son of Gladys Shipman McAbee and the late William McAbee. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charlie McAbee.
Wayne graduated from Erwin High School, where he excelled at football and track. He enjoyed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, Sr., going to classic car shows, hunting, fishing, and watching Westerns. He was also an animal lover who treasured his many pets over the years.
In addition to his mother, Mr. McAbee is survived by his wife, June Jones McAbee; daughter, Sarah Worley; sons, Jeff McAbee (Xylina) and Tommy McAbee; grandchildren, Jonas Worley, Ryder Worley, Felicia Sharpe (Allen), Cori Wilson (Chris), Sydney Meadows (Tyler), Tommy McAbee, Jr. (Sierra), and Addyson McAbee; great-grandchildren, Victoria Sharpe, Judah Wilson, Charlotte Sharpe, Bethel Wilson, Noah Sharpe, Josiah Wilson, Mavis Meadows, Eden Sharpe, Kaesyn McAbee, and Riley McAbee; sisters, Dorothy Shepherd (Frank), Tina Lucas (Doug), and Verna Gentry (Junior); brother, Mike McAbee (Judi); sister-in-law, Cynthia McAbee; and an extended family whom he treasured.
Wayne’s family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the funeral home to help make things easier for his family.

Sorry to hear of Wayne’s passing. I went to Erwin High School with Wayne and played football together and were very dear friends. Many prayers for all the family, I know Wayne will be missed.
