Born in: Madison Co., NC

Aileen Nix Greene, 93, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 27, 2025. She was a long time member of Newbridge Baptist Church and loved the life long friends that she made there.

She was very involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandson. There was nothing that she loved more than sitting on the sidelines of every sporting event that they played, cheering and teaching them about good sportsmanship.

Mom “Nana” was known as a great cook and took pleasure in cooking for others, most especially her great-grandson, Kaysen. They shared a very special bond.

A native of Madison Co., Aileen was a daughter of the late Paul and Edna King Cutshall. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Greene; brothers, Bob, Jim, and Bill Cutshall; and sister, Edith Wallen.

She is survived by her daughters, Rita Nix, and Kathy Nix Redmond (Mike); son, Mark Nix (Robin); grandsons, Colby Nix, Tyler Nix, Blake Westbrook, and Grant Westbrook; and great-grandson, Kaysen Nix.

Her family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, at Newbridge Baptist Church. The graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory. The Revs. Clark Henderson and Brian Buckner will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Aileen’s memory may be made to Newbridge Baptist Church, 199 Elwood Ave., Asheville, NC 28804.

Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.

  2. Kathy, Mark and Rita, Larry and I were so very sorry to hear about your Mother. Please know our love and prayers are with each of you.

  3. Mark, Kathy & Rita,
I am so very sorry to hear of your mom’s death. There are so many fond memories of growing up in Woodfin. Your mom was so kind to give mom and me rides to Erwin basketball games. Such a sweet and special person. My love and prayers to all.

  4. Aileen has always been so special to me and my family. She always had something nice to say and was always smiling. We had a running joke, I am terrible with names and couldn’t remember her name so I told Laura, you know Rita’s mom. She got such a kick out of that that every time I saw her after that she would introduce her self as Rita’s mom. Aileen was always one of my favorite friends at Newbridge.

  5. We are so sorry for the loss of your Mom. I worked with Charlie for many years at Winn Dixie and got to know your Mom. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

  6. Prayers for all the family! Aileen is free from pain and sorrow and lives in a happier place. Such a blessing for her.

    Martha Cooper

  7. To Rita and family;
My deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother! What a jewel she was! I met you and Aileen at Emerald Ridge when you came to visit Mae! She was my mother’s roomate! I feel blessed to have known Aileen and you! May God bless you and may you lean on him for strength and comfort!
    Susan Perry Partain

  8. I am so sorry to hear of Aunt Aileen’s passing. She was funny, witty and caring. My thoughts are with Rita and family. All my love. Jonathan Greene

  9. To Rita and family, my deepest condolences for the loss of Aileen. You both were such a blessing when our mom was at Emerald Ridge. God had a hand in putting her in the same room with Mae. I remember you going to visit Mom even after Mae passed. I pray your memories will carry you through until you see her again in Heaven. She was a treasure.

  10. Rita, Kathy, Mark,
We’re praying for God’s sufficient grace for you as you walk through this grief journey. Other than the love of God, I don’t believe that there is a deeper love than the love of a mom. Your precious mom loved you and all of her family with a steadfast love. “The Eternal God is your refuge and underneath are His everlasting arms.”

  11. Kathy, Rita and Mark, sending sincere condolences for the loss of your dear precious mother. So many memories come to mind when I think of our family events. One thing I will never forget is the incredible sweet smile and soft kind voice of Aileen. The Thomas family is sending love and prayers for the entire family – May all the precious memories bring you all peace and joy in the days and years ahead. Love you all!!

  12. Rita, I know the days have been difficult for you and your family. I am still thinking of you and sending love and prayers. I am sorry I did not make the services for your mom. My heart was with you. I and my family were celebrating my mother’s birthday for the first time without her at the same time you were saying “til we meet again” to your mother. Life has certainly changed, and it’s harder than we think, but we have the promise and The Plan is perfect. Much love, Always with friendship, BJ Freeman and family.
