Mary Jo Shipman, 89, of Arden, NC, went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at Fletcher Rehabilitation Center, which had been her home for the last several years.
Born in Fletcher, she was the daughter of the late Elisha and Mary (Moore) Shipman. She was also preceded in death by two brothers: Fred Moore and John Kinley Shipman, and three sisters: Ethel Silvers, Nora Howell, and Marie Franks.
Mary Jo was a member of Long Shoals Baptist Church and she loved scrapbooking, animals, and spending time with her family.
Mary Jo is survived by Virginia Smith of Charlotte, NC and Joyce McMinn of Arden, NC; Lloyd Shipman (Susan) of Arizona and George Shipman (Ruth) of Asheville, NC; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, March 7, 2025 at Long Shoals Baptist Church, Arden, with Rev. Roger Rearden officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Asheville. Friends will be received at Long Shoals Baptist Church for one hour prior to the service, from 2 to 3 PM.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
