Susan Jackson Buchanan took her final journey home on November 28, 2024, leaving a legacy that’s just as vibrant and colorful as the life she led. Born on November 6, 1952, in Asheville, Susan’s life was a tapestry woven with threads of faith, family, and fierce love. A devoted Christian, her life was a testimony to her beliefs, offering wisdom and guidance to all who knew her.
In 1980, she married her soulmate, David, who preceded her in passing but surely greeted her with open arms. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and a shared commitment to family. Susan made a career of nurturing her family as a dedicated homemaker—what a wonderful job she did. Her children, Jared and Brittany, can attest to the fiery love she enveloped them in, and are guided and watched over by their now guardian angel. Her advice—sometimes given with a dose of playful sass—was always worth its weight in gold. Like the unforgettable Clairee in Steel Magnolias, she often said, “I’m just too colorful for words”, and indeed, she painted her world with vibrant hues of kindness, courage, and laughter.
Among those who will carry her spirit are her son Jared, daughter Brittany, sister Anne Lingelbach, and brother Jeffrey Jackson. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Julie and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Elya, and Evan. Her family tree, so carefully nurtured, will continue to grow, inspired by her endless love.
Friends and family will gather to honor Susan’s remarkable life at Groce Funeral Home on December 7, 2024, with a visitation for family and friends from 12 pm to 1 pm followed by a service at 1 pm officiated by Pastor Dennis Thurman. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved David at Forest Lawn Memorial Park—a place where love stories like theirs never end.
Susan’s love was vast and her legacy immense; she leaves behind a world brighter for having been in it. Those who loved her are certain that heaven’s got another angel, with a few suggestions on how God can rearrange the furniture.

My heart is broken. We will all figure out how to “get it together” without you. Fly high my sweet sister. I got Jared and Brittany for you. You were the best sister anyone could ask for.

With Love thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Aunt Susie, your passing has definitely been hard for all of us. You will be missed and your memories will be cherished forever. I love you and know you’ll watch over us all with Uncle David and Grandmother and Papaw.
I’m sorry for the families shock and grief. Susan called me every day on the way to chemo. I was in her wedding. First cousins. I know her children, grand children and the rest of the family will miss her terribly.
Susan was always Susan – a wonderful mother, wife and friend.
Our deepest sympathies to the family.
She will be dearly missed.
