Mary Scott Snyder went to glory on September 24, 2024, at the age of 77. She was cared for at Solace Hospice in Asheville, NC, at the time of her death.
Mary was the daughter of William and Nita Turner Scott of Spartanburg, SC. She and her twin sister, Sylvia, grew up in Spartanburg and attended Spartanburg High. She received a bachelor’s degree from Converse College and a master’s in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of South Carolina. She was married to James Lovelace in 1970 and they lived in San Francisco, New Orleans, Brazil and Washington, D.C., where their daughter Nellie was born. They moved to Augusta, GA, in 1983.
Mary spent much of her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist. In Augusta, she worked at NDT Programs, Medical College of Georgia, Walton Rehab Hospital and then in private practice. She loved her patients and their families over the years.
Mary married Wilmoth Snyder in Augusta in 1997. In their life together, they enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail and volunteering with children and youth ministry in Augusta. They were active members of Open Door Community Church and Martinez United Methodist Church in Augusta until they moved to Asheville in 2021.
Mary was whole-hearted and passionate about every task she took on. She was quick to speak of the Lord’s faithfulness in her life and she was fervent in prayer. She wanted everyone to know the love and saving grace of Jesus.
Mary was a devoted and beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmoth Maynard Snyder. She is survived by her daughter, Nellie (David) Fleming, and grandchildren, Esther and William Fleming, of Asheville. She is also survived by her twin sister, Sylvia (Fred) Quandt, of Skokie, IL; nephew, Ryan (Elizabeth) Quandt, of Hillside, IL, and niece, Rachel (Dan) Meehan, and their sons Charlie and Tommy Meehan, of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by stepdaughter, Donna Snyder, of Asheville, and stepson Doug (Lisa) Snyder, of Greenville, SC.
Initially postponed due to Hurricane Helene, a memorial service honoring Mary’s life and burial of her ashes will now be held on Saturday, November 23, at 1:00 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4501 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, Georgia 30813.
Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to Open Door Community Church in Augusta, GA, or Christian Learning Centers of Augusta.

My Auny Mary is one of the most beautiful and intelligent people I have known in my lifetime. Watching her work with children, as a speech pathologist, and when she volunteered for children’s ministry helped inspire me to want to be a teacher. She was such a loving aunt snd great aunt to my boys. We will miss her very much.
Mary was one of the kindest ladies I have ever met. I’ve had the great privilege of knowing her since our daughters were little girls. She will be greatly missed.
Many Warm Hugs and prayers suround you.
