James “Monroe” Boone, 82, of Weaverville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

Monroe was born on October 20, 1941, to the late James Arthur Boone and A. Eldowa Metcalf Boone, of Petersburg, NC. In addition to his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Boone and Novile Boone, and his step-mother, Connie Waldrup Crawford.

Monroe was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Later in his life he became a toolmaker, then a locksmith owning Asheville Lock and Key.

Monroe is survived by his wife of 33 years, Lissa Wilkins Boone; brothers, Harlon Boone (Jane), and Roger Boone (Diane); sister-in-laws, Linda Boone and Janie Boone; a cousin, Cora Lee Payne and other cousins; and step-father, Willie Crawford.

Monroe was an affectionate, hardworking, dedicated man who put the needs of others ahead of his own. He will be sorely missed, especially by his wife, his four fur babies, Baby, Pumpkin, Molly and Precious, as well as his caregivers and friends. He was determined in all of his health struggles to pull through for his loved ones with his faith in God.

His memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain, NC.
